Oxfordshire Bangladeshi Association was established in August 2002 in response to the needs of local Bangladeshi community and now has a charitable status.
Over the years membership of the organisation has grown substantially and so are its links with various Statutory, Voluntary and other community organisations. OBA undertakes various projects and events to enhance the social well-being, cultural development and economic potential of Bangladeshi community through provision of support, research, advice, training, education and community development.
The main objectives of the organisation are:
• To encourage members of the Bangladeshi community to participate in the social and cultural activities.
• Encouraging British-Bangladeshis to pursue higher education, entrepreneurship, professional excellence and economic independence.
• Identifying and rewarding excellence and achievement in the Bangladeshi community in the Oxfordshire.
• To encourage those able and willing to take a full part in the democratic process available both at local and national level.
• To tackle social exclusion and ensure that every individual is enabled to be part of the wider local economy and be in gainful paid employment.
